Why so obsessed with beauty?
Why are we so obsessed with our appearances. Does this dimension of our life deserve all that botheration?
The race to look the best is doing more harm to women than body hair.
This is not to praise the twinkle in our eyes or the glory in our smile, but to make a point that our obsession with beauty is mad-crazy.
The way I look at it someone's attractive looks do no good to you. The present beauty standards are undermining, distracting, and destructive. It affects women more, on average women own 40 cosmetics. As long as you are not aspiring to be eye candy or to join show-biz, there is no need to freak so much about your looks. Can we just stop talking about who wore what at the party? Can we breathe and let people be. It is high time that we admire each other for confidence, sass, talent. Let us complement each other on what we do rather than how we look.
We have had enough of airport looks, the gym looks, the event looks, behind scene looks, and many more, paparazzi never seems to take rest. Can our headlines sound less like "Disha Patani looks ravishing post-gym workout" or "You need to take inspiration from Deepika Padukone's look "?We can do better than that, our news feed can make more sense.
Are b-town celebs all that we need to be gushing about! After all, there is an entire team curating the way they look. They put in that amount of work because it is part of their jobs to look a certain way. The influencers you see are paid for advertising those products, you are not for using them! Enough of being aimlessly hooked to the latest trends, designer clothes, fuller brows, contoured, highlighted face, etc.
The resources and effort that goes into this "beauty sick" mentality can be used otherwise. I agree that beauty sickness is a culture, but we can do our part to shield ourselves from that. As of now, the beauty industry is valued at $532 billion. Does it cater to women of all colors? Does it not promote racism? Does it make our lives any better?
Beauty is subjective, not quantitative, and like they say it "Beauty lies in the beholder's eyes". I am all up for looking presentable but that is about it, no more obsessing than that.

For some beauty can be something that you feel.
Each human being has a different perspective and hence what may seem beautiful to you may not be the same for me.
Beauty from the aspect of mother is that her child is beautiful…what others would feel about the child will not affect the mother.
Beauty from the aspect of a brother is his sister is the most beautiful person on earth and hence is always protective about her.
Beauty from the aspect of a friend is if your friend understands you, you've got the most beautiful friend.
Beauty for an archeologist are those broken pieces of artefacts and fossils that have been found under the ground.
Beauty for a sculpture is that piece of stone or rock, which will be made into a piece of art.
And beauty for lover is completely different as when two souls fall for each other there is no space for outer covering.

ReplyDeleteMen doesn't own cosmetic asa much as women it doesn't mean that it doesn't effect them. Our society have made believed who have good looks are the food one or better one's.
