Flaws of the Indian education system

This is not to compare the Indian education system with other countries or to disregard it for its merits. There's always a scope of improvement and right now a lot needs to be reformed. Here are few things that need immediate attention.

1.Labeling

A student is either excellent, average, or poor. That is how we classify and label children from the very beginning. To make the distinction more clear we further separate them with the notion that like minds should study together. This is sick. We are all changing. The fixed idea of intelligence is damaging. A person grows up with a notion of what they're and sets his/her goal accordingly. It is so easy to call someone talented and the other dull even when it's about basic learning in primary school. Besides academics, there is labeling even in co-curricular. An extrovert is considered good at co-curricular and an introvert bad at it. Even though there are great singers, dancers, writers, speakers who are introverts. The problem with labeling is when we label someone we limit their growth.

2.Compulsion

Self-discipline is crucial and is one of many things our system shall be applauded for. But sometimes to establish that behavior we categorize everything as compulsory. We use that as an excuse to make children do things that often make no sense. The focus then shifts from understanding and implementing concepts to scoring a certain number.

3.Limited resources

Some of the leading people in top companies are of Indian origin who have graduated from Indian institutions. There's no doubt that there are some top-notch colleges around the country. The question is do they suffice to the number of youth in the country. There is always discussion on reservation and that's an entire topic altogether. But if students would get the quality of education they deserve no one would ever complain. We can check the stats, there's just not enough seats in good colleges and there are so few colleges that provide quality education. There is a need for better faculty, infrastructure, equipment across the length and breadth of the country.

4.Individualism

The system sabotage individualism at every step. There's fixed, the same parameter to judge everyone. Everything's binary, one is either a failure or a success. It rarely gives a chance to understand one's strengths and interests. It rarely allows students to excel in their ways. It is so that people after graduating with a professional degree and working for years have to switch fields. The reason being they never really knew the options that existed while they chose to pursue that degree or were never given a chance to realize what they're good at. Often the choice they made earlier was under peer or parents pressure.

5.Lack of opportunity

Is it a lack of opportunity? Or is it an inefficient course structure that focuses way too much on rote learning?
Institutions fail big time to bridge the gap between learning and working in the real world. So much so that even after getting a job in the same field they studied people have to unlearn most of what they were taught and pick up new skills in a short interval. Also, some people are clueless and don't land up earning well even after spending so much on their education. The quality of education as well as the mindsets are to be questioned here.

We surely have one of the most rigorous curriculum. It is very competitive from getting into an institution to getting a job. We can boast of having the IITs, IIMs, and other top medical and law colleges but the number of employable skilled youth in the country is alarming.
